Union Display Case

The “JOANNE AND RICHARD A. SPILLANE JR ’72 PU LOUNGE” display case, located on the righthand side of the Student Union’s front lobby, has been allocated for the purpose of highlighting student efforts in mental health and wellness, as well as community engagement and civic service.  Currently, the display case houses the Out of the Darkness Walk banner, with plans to incorporate additional signage and memorabilia from APO Service Day and the 2023 Mental Health Week Program.  The RPI Student Mental Health & Well-Being Committee is working on the plans for the layout of this commemoration, with the current design concept shown below.  The goal is to hopefully have this project finished over the summer so it will be ready for when students return to campus at the beginning of the Fall 2024 semester.

MHW Program Compiled Student Feedback Report

MHW Report.jpg

Throughout the 2023 Mental Health Week (MHW) Program, anonymous data was collected from students regarding key issues and concerns related to various aspects of campus life.  The goal was to identify concerns most pressing to students, create proposed solutions to these problems, and carefully outline all of the data and information in a comprehensive manner that will be most effective for the administration to take these concerns seriously and implement positive corrective actions to better support students.  The RPI Student Mental Health & Well-Being Committee is currently working on finalizing this report so that it can be submitted to the RPI Student Senate.

Campus Accessibility Initiatives

Given RPI's geographic location and the age of many of the buildings on campus, accessibility is a major concern and something that has been actively discussed by both the administration and a number of student organizations in recent years (including by Disabled Students at RPI, the Student Health Advisory Council, the Student Senate, the Office of Disability Services, and RCOS, the Rensselaer Center for Open Source Software).  The goal of the RPI Student Mental Health & Well-Being Committee is to ensure that all of these separate organizations are in communication with each other so that they can collaborate on these efforts, and to help identify areas or specific initiatives that could use additional support (in particular, the RCOS accessibility map project).
